"Find Him" by kel. (*nsync, J.C., 500 words)

Josh sings, but when he sings he hides his voice in a chorus, so he can only be heard in his own head. He knows a lot of good places to hide. Music is a good place to hide. The piano is in the smallest room in the house. It's big and tall and old and when Josh sits behind it, all you can see is the music. The piano is tricky, though, because sometimes he can't make the music come out through his fingers the way it sounds in his head. The music in his head is a secret.

Josh has secrets, things that would make people hate him if they knew. or at least not like him very much. So he hides his secrets inside himself and then he hides himself in small rooms, large crowds, baggy clothes and team sports.

Josh is hiding up against a wall at a party when he sees Kacy dancing.

Kacy is like Josh, sort of. Kacy has secrets but he isn't always good at hiding them and sometimes he gets taunted for it. Josh likes Kacy but he's never wanted to be like him until now.

When Kacy dances, nobody sees anything but what he wants them to see. Alone in the middle of the crowd, he should be vulnerable, but instead, he's hidden himself inside his body, inside the way his body moves. He's hidden himself in plain sight.

Josh asks Kacy to teach him how to dance. Josh knows about the way people look at each other and how much they see. He knows that when you ask someone for help, they only look at how you're looking at them and how they look to you. Josh sees Kacy look at himself and sees a pretty good dancer but then he looks at Josh to make sure Josh is seeing the same thing. Josh looks at himself and thinks he sucks. Josh can tell that when Kacy looks at him, he doesn't see it, though, and Josh decides that the fact that he sucks is another secret.

Josh dances at parties because it's a good way to look like he knows what he's doing. Kim sees him dance at parties, but she dances in practice rooms and on stages at competitions and Josh is sure that when she really sees him dance she'll know he sucks. But she doesn't, somehow it's still a secret. And so she gives him a shirt that sparkles brighter than his eyes and he smiles bigger than his fear. When the crowd cheers, Josh feels the rush of invisibility pass through him and he knows that none of the hundreds of pairs of eyes trained on him can see anything but his sparkle and his smile.

When he sees the ad for the audition, he knows. He'll hide himself in Orlando, reflecting the light of the sunshine so bright that no one will ever see him. Orlando. No one will ever find him there.
